It said that close to Victoria Falls you can only communicate with others with your eyes due to the uproar that the fall of the water produces. It said that you can still hear it roaring for days after you have visited the falls… Doctor David Livingstone, who in the year 1855 became the first European to get there, named the waterfalls as Victoria in honour of his queen.

Shortly after they were recognized as one of the natural wonders of the world and a valuable destination for any adventurous traveller. The waterfalls measured kilometre and a half in width. As a result of falling from a height of 120 meters, the waterfalls create a impressive flood of water and a deafening noise.

With the dusk and dawn, the sky, the water and the mist acquire pink and orange shades, especially in the wet season from March to May, the time in which the falls are at their maximum splendour and mist rises to 300 meters toward the sky. It is easy to imagine the astonishment of the doctor Livingstone when he wrote: “It had never been seen before by European eyes; but scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight“. So today called “Flight of the Angels” of fifteen minutes on the waterfalls is one of the most picturesque flights of the world.

Under the waterfalls the rapids of white waters provide one of the best areas of river rafting in the world. Here is where the Zambezi river drops through the narrow gorges of basalt which separates Zambia from Zimbabwe, an impressive hall of waters interspersed with stretches of calm. The classic stretches of the Zambezi, with names like Ghost Rider or the Waterfalls Moemba, are extremely fast. However they are also considered among the safest, thanks to the depth of the water and the absence of rocks in the river.

To get to the Victoria Falls we recommend you to travel by plane to Johannesburg. From there, you can take a direct flight to the Victoria Falls Airport. From this airport, you can rent a car up to the waterfalls or go by bus.
