Statue of Liberty

The next July 4 of this year, 2013, the famous Statue of Liberty will open to the public again. This important event will coincide, by the way, with the national celebration of the United States. Until that day, this great American emblem is kept closed and in the process of restoration after the damage suffered by the passage of hurricane Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy flooded the island causing substantial damage on 29 October 2012, and even destroyed part of the statue’s pedestal.

In a first time the opening of the statue was scheduled for May 27, but the July 4 finally has been chosen because it is a significant date for Americans and it is when there is a greater number of tourists in the city.

The Statue of Liberty is the monument that generates greater revenue to New York in the tourism sector.

Statue of Liberty

You have to go by boat from Battery Park to visit the Statue of Liberty. The ferry to Staten Island is free all day.

It is recommended that you go early to avoid having to wait to buy tickets in long queues at the ticket office. After 10.00 in the morning the queues are quite long. You can also book the tickets in the web of the Statue of Liberty.
